EME2040 Journal 4
The grade that I have picked to go more in depth on is First Grade. I honestly picked this grade because it was my favorite class at my old job. Anyways back on topic, The standard that I have chosen to expand on is LAFS.1.SL.1.2. This standard was simply put in place to help students at this age better understand the things they may read. By asking and answering questions about the many key details in the story will simply help kids in this grade learn to not just read without a real understanding of what they have just read. In all, I do feel prepared to implement this strategy based on my current skills. Reason being because this was how I was taught to understand things. By asking myself and being asked questions about important details in the story. This is indeed a great standard skill that should go for all grades, even college.
The resource tool that I will expand more on is "Let's make a dollar". This is a 1st grade resource tool that gives in depth tutorial on how students in the first grade can learn to make a dollar with various coins such as quarters, nickels, dimes and pennies. This tutorial in particular has 5 parts. I feel that this tutorial(s) indeed will help students learn the many different ways there is to make a dollar using coins. In all, I personally would most defiantly recommend these videos as a homework assignment with the extra practice of them writing different examples down that they have learned from the videos. This tool is not only helpful to the students but the parents as well. It guides parents when helping their children and also gives them something to reference back to.
When it comes to internet searching as a teacher, this is something you should be very proficient in. Reason being because there is so much on the internet teachers can learn from. From the various of teaching styles to the reaching out to other teachers who may also be struggling with the same issue. From the internet searching skills introduced in class, by far my favorite one was just the simple fact of google. I know this may seem simple, but this is one of the biggest internet accessing tools that helps all ages, especially teachers. I personally don't use any other searching skills on the internet besides the one mentioned above. In all, the internet has it's pros and cons but I personally use it for its pros!
Hey hey! I love your second paragraph on the "Let's make a dollar" resource. Similar to my post it is interesting to view how some things haven't changed over the course of years given that I remember doing this activity when I was in 1st grade. I love how you included parents to your post as I believe having a healthy parent-student-teacher relationship benefits the student greatly when performing inside and outside the classroom!
